June 2019

June is a special month. Who said Winter is not brimming with life?

It is the month in which we launch our new corporate identity and website. Thank you to Nina Solms (designs) and Jeanne Cilliers (website) for the hard work and assisting Iluminar in making this transition.

June is also the month where we introduce “Die Kind het ‘n Reus Geword” – an artistic collaboration between 3 musicians, 2 actors and 10 visual artists – all in aid of Iluminar’s first overseas project. We are super excited to take Korreltjie Kantel to Netherlands and Belgium in October. Check out the Top Picks on our Home Page and read more about this exciting project and who is involved.

Jazz lovers can look forward to a performance by the Ramon Alexander Trio at one of our favourite Cape Town venues – The Alma Cafe. He will be performing there on Thursday night, the 6th of June! Make sure you book your seat.

June also sees award-winning Sima Mashazi perform the popular My Miriam Makeba Story at the Fynarts Festival on the 11th of June. We are proud to say we are almost sold out! If you would like to go, make sure you visit the festival website and buy your tickets immediately.

We are also representing three artists at Zandvliet Wine Estate’s fantastic Wacky Wine Festival program. If you are planning to attend Wacky Wine, make sure you spend Saturday the 8th of June at Zandvliet Wine Estate. Singer-songwriter Matt Carstens will be entertaining visitors to the farm between 12pm and 2pm. If you are into wining and dining – then you ought to book for the special 3 course dinner and show hosted by Zandvliet on the evening of 8 June. The incredible singer Adelia Douw (recently returned from an international 9 month performance stint) is performing alongside her mentor and super-skilled trumpet player Ian Smith. They will be accompanied by top jazz musicians Kevin Gibson, Sean Sanby and Blake Hellaby. You don’t want to miss this experience.

On an educational level – we are once again working with the Cape Town Music Academy on their wonderful initiative – the Berklee College of Music, CTMA and SU Jazz & Hip-Hop Winter School. This will take place between 15 June and 20 June at the Conserve in Stellenbosch. We are already fully booked for this free of charge learning experience. Delegates from Berklee City Music (Boston, America) visit South Africa to inspire and teach school learners, students of music, professional musicians and music teachers all about that jazz! This year it includes HIPHOP! This is the second year that Iluminar Productions is involved with the coordination of the workshop and we are proud to be affiliated with this incredible initiative. Well done to the CTMA for creating this life-changing opportunity for musicians and teachers in music. And thank you for including Iluminar Productions. It is an honour.

We also look forward to working with Pretoria based band, Georgetown. They are traveling to the Western Cape and we were happy to assist in some local gigs for them. Make sure you catch them when they perform in Durbanville and Barrydale in the month of June!

As you can see, we have much on our plate and we are happy about it!

Let’s see what July has to offer!!
